What this app can do, and where Shopify stops

Every checkout-rules app works through the same Shopify plumbing, and some of what merchants ask for is out of reach for every app, not just this one. Here is the complete list, so you can decide before you install rather than after.

Where Shopify allows part of the job

Credit cards on US and Canadian stores below Shopify Plus

On those stores Shopify ignores any rule aimed at the credit card option. In its own words, "customizations are limited to non-credit card payment methods… any custom settings applied to credit card fields won't apply at checkout." This is Shopify's restriction, and it applies to every app equally. A rule aimed at the card option there will save and look correct, and the checkout will pass it by. Every other method — Cash on Delivery, bank transfer, invoice, Klarna, PayPal, wallets — behaves normally.

Express wallets — Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay

A rule can hide these. Renaming and reordering them stay with Shopify, and so does its own gift-card field. The rule builder says so and refuses to save a rename that targets one, rather than letting you find out at checkout.

Where the shopper sees your message

A blocked checkout shows your message at checkout — on the standard checkout, on a checkout link copied into a fresh browser, and inside the Buy it now window. We watched all three happen on a live store. That is the whole point of running inside Shopify's checkout instead of in your theme: there is no page a shopper can skip to.

Express wallets are the one place we have not watched it ourselves. The same check runs on every checkout Shopify sends it, wallets included, but our test store cannot switch a wallet on — so we tell you what we measured, and not what we assume. Treat the wallet's own wording as unconfirmed by us; the block itself is Shopify's behaviour, not ours.

The cart page depends on your theme. A rule can also stop the Add to cart button, if you switch that on. Shopify's own Dawn theme then shows your message above the button; another theme we tried showed nothing and simply didn't add the item. The app leaves that setting off and says the same thing beside it. Cart messages has the 30-second check for your own theme, and the fix for a theme developer. The checkout is the part that behaves the same on every store: the shopper finds out at checkout, in your words.

One message per checkout, not one per line item. Shopify has no way for an app to put an error on a single line, and the Buy it now window shows only the first message and drops the rest. So this app joins everything that matched into one message, and a rule about one product should name that product in its own text.

How many rules you can run

The real limit is not a number on a pricing page. Shopify gives every checkout a fixed amount of room and a fixed amount of running time, and the app shows both as live meters while you build. In practice that is up to 17 active rules per type — 51 in total on the paid plan, and fewer if your rules match large collections. The free plan runs 3 active rules, with every condition, every rule type, and as much testing as you like.

Your rules live in your store

Your rules are kept inside your own store, not in a database of ours. You can copy them out from Settings at any time and paste them into another store. Uninstalling the app removes our access to them.
